Employment Adviser – Ballina-Byron Region

Tursa Employment & Training is seeking to employ an Employment Adviser who meets our selection criteria to work within the area below, to provide services and support to eligible, unemployed participants to enable those participants to achieve employment outcomes under the Australian Government’s jobactive programme.

Delivery of Employment Services under the jobactive programme is a highly competitive industry, and continuation of our contracts and the level of business the Government allocates to TURSA depends upon being ranked highly on comparative performance with other providers not only in the immediate area but more so against other providers across the rest of Australia. TURSA is currently a very successful and highly-ranked provider of jobactive services to businesses and unemployed persons in the eastern seaboard region from Forster on the Mid-North Coast of NSW to Noosaville on the QLD Sunshine Coast.

The successful applicant will have excellent people skills i.e. the ability, disposition and commitment to engage positively and empathetically with clients to work with and support them to move into employment or self-employment. The position is one of contributing your skills, knowledge, and energy into the client-worker relationship as a partner with the client in seeking opportunities for gainful employment, and to engage and negotiate with employers as required on behalf of your client.

Experience in employment services, whilst desirable, is not essential but proven, good customer service and relations skill are.

Staff will need to be flexible and have the ability to adapt to change as the industry is subject to frequent change and development.

Employment Advisers will be required to undertake the Certificate IV in Employment Services training course on-the-job unless they already hold that qualification. Certificate IV in Employment Services is a nationally accredited and recognised qualification in the industry and will be delivered at no cost to the employee.

Selection Criteria:

Employment Adviser
1 Enthusiasm, commitment, and positive attitude to engaging and working flexibly with unemployed clients to achieve employment outcomes
2 Excellent communication skills especially oral
3 A strong sense of self, and level of confidence to engage comfortably with clients suffering unemployment and other disadvantages
4 Relevant practical experience e.g. within jobactive or Job Services Australia combined with demonstrated consistent performance in achieving outcomes for clients is desirable but not essential
5 I. T. skills e.g. Internet, Email, Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook programs
6 Motor vehicle driver’s licence

Position Overview:

POSITION: Grading as follows based on experience and skills:

Trainee Employment Adviser (opportunities may exist for inexperienced persons who have the interest and enthusiasm to seek a career in the industry.)

Employment Adviser- Grade 1

Employment Adviser- Grade 2

Progression by re-classification to Senior Employment Adviser on merit or the allocation of additional duties at the discretion of management
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Cluster Manager, Manager, Co-ordinator or Team Leader as determined or allocated

Classification & Salaries: Training & Placement Officer Grade 1 & 2 LMAI Award shall apply for Employment Adviser Grade 1 and Employment Adviser Grade 2, respectively

Senior Employment Adviser will be substantively Training and Placement Officer Grade 2 (LMAI Award) plus additional discretionary increments up to a maximum salary equivalent to Level D, Training & Placement Co-ordinator (LMAI Award)
OBJECTIVE: To assist and enable clients to achieve employment or self-employment outcomes.
SCOPE: Employment Adviser is a generic classification which covers work duties such as:
  • Individual Job Seeker Case Management
  • Recruitment Officer or Job Placement
  • Reverse Marketing
  • Provision of Employer Placement Support
  • Sourcing Work Experience placements
  • Sourcing Work for the Dole placements
  • Conducting individual or group training and/or assessment services
As such an incumbent is a multi-functioned employee engaged to provide direct services to participants in training courses, placement, or support services and other programmes and activities provided to Tursa Employment & Training clients.

Employment Adviser duties shall include the range of duties required to deliver jobactive services prescribed under contract to the Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business or Department of Social Security (DSS).

An incumbent may be required to discharge all of the duties or some of the duties in such combination as specified as is necessary to deliver contracted services and taking into consideration the abilities and skills of the worker, and the needs of the site and clients.
