Payroll Officer

Tursa Employment & Training is seeking to employ an experienced Payroll Officer to work within a professional Payroll team in Lismore, NSW, to provide end-to-end processing of the companies payroll of around 400 staff members. The successful applicant must uphold themselves to be both ethical and confidential, and ensure they conduct their work to a legal and professional standard.

Selection Criteria:

 Payroll Officer
1 Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a high volume payroll environment delivering both speed and accuracy
2 Cert III or higher qualification in payroll administration or other relevant qualification
3 Good communication and time management skills
4 Proficiency with using Microsoft 365 products
1 Experience with Sage Micropay and ConnX

Position Overview:


POSITION: Payroll Officer
SUBSTANTIVE GRADING: Minimum of Administrative Officer (Labour Market Assistance Industry Award 2020) according to relevant experience and/or qualifications, and duties. Progress beyond the scale shall be dependent upon appropriate experience, skills, and holding relevant qualifications.
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chief Financial Officer
OBJECTIVE: To contribute to establishment, maintenance, and development of the accounting function, activities, processes, and productivity to the highest possible professional standard in an ethical, efficient, and effective manner.
SCOPE: To process payroll accurately and on time.
Duties and responsibilities generally shall be to:
  1. Comply with all TURSA policies, procedures and protocols, contractual requirements, requirements of Codes of Conduct, and legislation applicable to relationships with clients, other staff, other providers, government agencies and departments.
  2. Coordinating end to end processing of the company payroll, confidentially, fortnightly and/or monthly.
  3. Calculating and processing leave entitlements, superannuation, salary sacrifice and termination payments when required.
  4. Answering payroll enquiries within a timely manner.
  5. Accurate preparation and presentation of payroll analysis and reporting.
  6. Ensuring accurate compliance with appropriate Awards (Labour Market Industry Award 2020), legislation, and organisation processes.
  7. Payroll Officer must uphold themselves to be both ethical and confidential, and ensure they conduct their work to a legal and professional standard.
  8. Maintain up to date knowledge of change to Award (LMAI), Acts and Agreements, including salary, leave, allowances, salary packaging, workers compensation, and superannuation.
  9. Prepare fortnightly, monthly and annual reports to management.
  10. Provide input into the maintenance of the ConnX HR system.
Carry out such other relevant activities consistent with TURSA’s objectives, programmes and services as the Chief Financial Officer may authorise.

Medical Examination:

Tursa Employment & Training reserves the right to require applicants to undergo a medical examination before offering employment.

Federal Police and Child Protection Checks:
