Youth Jobs PaTH is a flexible new approach to youth employment. Tayla, 19, was drawn to the program as it provided her with the opportunity to gain the skills and work experience she needed to get and keep a job, whilst small business owner, Miss Steevens, was attracted to the program because it provided her with several incentives when taking on a young person.
Miss Steevens, who owns and operates Hair Hub Café located in North Buderim, said that “Community engagement is at the heart of Hair Hub’s philosophy – I would love my business to be the place that empowers young people and provides a working environment in which they can grow. But growing your team as a small business owner can be financially very difficult and scary”.
TURSA formed a strong working relationship with Miss Steevens after she made contact based on the recommendation of a colleague. “TURSA has been amazing during the entire process and made it so easy for us. The PaTH internship that TURSA organised for our business gave us a chance to get to know Tayla and see if she’s the right fit for our business before having to make the decision to bring her on as an employee. This took some of the financial pressure of us”, said Miss Steevens.
Tayla (pictured) was given the ideal opportunity to display her versatility by standing in as a model for a Hair Hub photoshoot when the original model cancelled at the last minute. Hair Hub’s recruitment team were so impressed with Tayla’s commitment and initiative that they offered her a role as Hair Salon Coordinator following the PaTH internship.
