Protecting Wildlife, Building Skills and Strengthening Community: Coffs Harbour Wildlife Sanctuary

For more than 30 years, we’ve worked alongside local organisations that make a real difference in the lives of people across the regions we serve. Through the TURSA Community Grant Program, we’re proud to support projects that create opportunities, strengthen connections and deliver lasting benefits for communities.

One organisation doing exactly that is the Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary.

Known for its commitment to wildlife conservation, rehabilitation and education, the Sanctuary provides visitors with a unique opportunity to learn about and connect with native and marine wildlife. Behind the scenes, however, there is another important story unfolding, one that focuses on learning, skill development and creating opportunities for people to grow.

Through support from the TURSA Community Grant Program, the Sanctuary has been able to access important resources, including laptops, televisions and printers, helping strengthen its education and training capabilities. These resources are supporting participants as they develop practical skills, gain valuable experience and engage in hands-on learning opportunities within a unique conservation environment.

The partnership is helping create pathways for people to build confidence, develop transferable workplace skills and contribute to meaningful conservation activities. Participants have the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment while gaining experience that can support future training and employment goals.

What makes this partnership so special is that the benefits extend well beyond individual participants. Every skill developed, every learning opportunity created and every conservation outcome achieved contributes to a stronger community.

The Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary is one of many organisations supported through the TURSA Community Grant Program. Established as part of TURSA’s commitment to giving back to the communities we serve, the program provides funding to not-for-profit organisations delivering positive social, environmental and community outcomes across New South Wales and Queensland.

From supporting organisations that assist families experiencing hardship to helping community groups expand vital services and investing in projects that protect local environments, the program is designed to strengthen the work already being undertaken by dedicated community organisations.

What we continue to see is that when local organisations are empowered with the resources they need, the impact reaches far beyond any single project. Communities become stronger, opportunities increase and people are better supported to reach their potential.
