For many young people, taking the first step into the workforce can feel overwhelming. From exploring career options and gaining workplace experience to building confidence and developing the skills employers are looking for, there can be a lot to navigate along the way. At TURSA, we’re committed to supporting young people through every stage of their employment journey, helping them build the confidence, skills, and experience they need to achieve their goals.
Through our Transition to Work program, sisters Noor and Yasmine have successfully secured a 20-week hospitality traineeship with MultiLink through the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program. The traineeship provides hands-on industry experience while helping participants develop the practical skills and qualifications needed to build a successful career.
During their traineeship, Noor and Yasmine have developed a range of valuable skills, including teamwork, customer service, food preparation, front-of-house operations, café service, and catering support. They have also gained industry-recognised qualifications through First Aid, Barista Training, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), and Safe Food Handling certification. These transferable skills not only support them in their current role but will also help set them up for success in future employment opportunities.
With English not being their first language, finding employment had previously proved challenging for the sisters. Having access to a supportive pathway that builds on their strengths and abilities has been instrumental in helping them gain confidence, gain workplace experience, and feel better prepared for long-term employment.
Noor and Yasmine have aspirations of pursuing careers in the real estate industry and plan to undertake further study to achieve their goals. Their traineeship is providing them with practical workplace experience, valuable employability skills, and financial stability, helping them work towards their future ambitions.
Their journey is another great example of how the right support, opportunities, and determination can help young people build the skills and confidence needed to achieve their employment goals.
